Health Canada Recalls 54 Grundfos Solar Well Pumps; Surface-Installed Units Must Be Shut Off Now

Why Your Installer May Already Know

Health Canada's notice is dated Sept. 29, but this is not the first public word on the defect. Grundfos first posted its own Canadian safety notice on Aug. 21, 2026, then updated it on Aug. 28 to add production codes 2621 and 2622. If anyone checked your pump against the original August range, that check is out of date. Recheck against 2540 through 2622.

The company runs a matching U.S. recall notice for the same SQFlex models with the same five models and the same code range. It gives no U.S. unit count, and no corresponding Consumer Product Safety Commission recall had been located as of publication. For Canadian owners, the practical point is simple: a pump bought south of the border and installed here is identified by the same model-and-code rule.

What Installers and Dealers Need to Do

Grundfos tells distributors, dealers, installers and other resellers to notify affected downstream customers promptly. With only 54 Canadian units in circulation, installer records are often the most reliable way to find them, since many owners never saw the box.

Unused stock has its own rule. Health Canada says affected pumps that have not been installed should be returned for replacement. Like every Health Canada consumer recall, this one also notes that the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits recalled products from being redistributed, sold or even given away in Canada. A boxed spare in a shop or a barn cannot be passed along to a neighbour or sold at a farm auction. It goes back through the recall.

Recall Alerts and an Annual Well Check

On municipal water, the utility owns and monitors the pumps. On a private well or an off-grid solar system, nobody does except you. Ontario's water supply well maintenance guidance puts responsibility for maintaining every well on the landowner, including ongoing observation of the well, its pumping and associated equipment. Other provinces set their own rules, but the practical situation is the same everywhere: a recall on your pump reaches you only if you go looking for it.

Two habits close most of that gap. The first is Health Canada's recall email subscription service, which sends immediate alerts or a daily digest for categories you choose, such as appliances, building materials, electronics, outdoor living and tools. Coverage depends on the categories you select, so pick broadly if your water system spans several.

The second is a regular professional check of the well system. The U.S.-based National Ground Water Association recommends an annual well evaluation by a licensed or certified water well professional, including pump-motor performance, grounding and line voltage. That is industry guidance rather than a Canadian legal requirement. It is also the kind of visit where someone reads the nameplate, checks it against current recalls and tells you what is actually in your well.

For RA-82678 itself, the order of operations is short. Find the model and date code. Decide whether the pump is at the surface or down a well. If it is at the surface and affected, it goes off today. If it is down a well, flag it, isolate it on Grundfos's or your installer's advice, and make sure whoever pulls it next knows it is on a recall list.
