British Columbia has reshaped its heat pump support into an income-based structure under the CleanBC Energy Savings Program, administered through Better Homes BC. The amount you receive scales with your household income, and the gap between tiers is meaningful. A family of four earning under roughly $87,350 can qualify for up to $16,000 toward a heat pump, and once electrical upgrades are folded in, the income-qualified path can reach around $24,500 in total support. Higher-income households switching from gas, propane, or oil still qualify, just for more modest amounts.
There's one rule for 2026 that catches people off guard. For lower-income tiers registering on or after April 1, 2026, your home's assessed value has to sit at or under $1,200,000, and for the higher-income tier the cap is $1,820,000. The other rule is universal in BC: you must pre-register and receive an eligibility code before you buy equipment or start any work. Some municipalities, such as Kelowna, layer their own top-ups on top, so it's worth checking locally once you know your provincial amount.
